Tele Columbus to build fibre optic connections for new Stadtgut Hellersdorf development by GESOBAU AG

Berlin, 27 April 2021. Tele Columbus AG has started developing a network that will allow it to provide fibre optic service to a new construction project in the Stadtgut Hellersdorf development. GESOBAU AG, a Berlin-based municipal housing construction company, is building some 1,500 new affordable units with fibre to the home (FTTH) connections on a site measuring roughly 135,000 m2.
The connection technology for the fibre optic network will already be in place when the first tenants move in to the new units in 2021. The Tele Columbus Group is building the fibre optic network infrastructure up to the buildings. GESOBAU will then take over responsibility for bringing the fibre lines to the individual units.
Along Zossener Strasse and Kastanienallee in the Hellersdorf district, GESOBAU is acting as the lead construction company to develop a vibrant, mixed residential area offering affordable rents for broad segments of the population. A large portion will be available to the Berlin housing market as subsidised apartments. Other units have been set aside for students and seniors.
The new development is exemplary in showing that future-proof fibre connections are possible even in the affordable housing segment. Up to 1 Gbit/s of bandwidth will be available to residents right from the start.
