Masterflex Group to receive TOP 100 award

Masterflex Group has made it into the TOP 100 in the 26th year of the innovation competition.

TOP 100 uses a rigorous process of analysis to assess how SMEs manage innovation and how successful they are in bringing these innovations to market. Masterflex, which has 650 employees, particularly impressed the independent panel of judges in the 'Innovative Processes and Organisation' category. This is the second time that the company has joined this elite group.

Masterflex Group develops hoses for robotic controls and the medical sector, and also designs lightweight hoses for the aerospace industry. Around 15 employees are involved in innovative development at the TOP 100 company in Gelsenkirchen. They test new materials, create antistatic hoses that are approved for use in the food industry, and heated hoses that can carry liquid chocolate and other viscous materials.

But above all they are working on 'Hose 4.0', a high-tech hose fitted with sensors that can be integrated into digital processes. The group markets its networkable, intelligent hoses and connection systems under the name AMPIUS^(R). These hoses can be equipped with sensors that report in real time whether a hose has been fitted correctly, and if it requires maintenance or needs replacing. The sensors also make it possible to detect potential fluctuations in electrical resistors as they happen.

Digitalisation is also shaping the company's internal processes, which are increasingly being adapted to the requirements of Industry 4.0. Masterflex launched its first fully networked and fully automated extrusion line for producing spiral hoses in 2017, after a three-year development period, followed by a second line in 2018.
