The money is intended to finance local teachers for a year. The Bar Elias Educational Centre is located about 20 kilometres from the Syrian border. In the fall of 2016 the Orienthelfer school was converted into an educational centre and offers Syrian refugee children year-round instruction. Due to capacity bottlenecks in the Lebanese educational system, over 59 percent of Syrian refugee children do not attend school. The goal of the project is to give these children future prospects and enable them to enter the public school system. 650 children in 18 classes study at the Bar Elias Educational Centre. This includes 470 preschoolers aged four to five years old. Another 130 children take remedial instruction. Each class meets four hours a day, five days a week, including the remedial classes. Due to the large number of classes, instruction is in two shifts, a morning and an afternoon shift. Since 2015, the AURELIUS Refugee Initiative e.V. has donated over EUR 200,000 to the Orienthelfer e.V. organisation. This money has gone to finance various education projects in Lebanon's Bekaa valley. Educational prospects encourage refugee families to stay close to their homeland. Orienthelfer e.V. Orienthelfer e.V. is a non-profit association launched in Munich by cabaret artist Christian Springer in 2012. Among other things, it aims to provide humanitarian aid to victims of the Syrian conflict. Most of the projects are in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. Since early 2017 the Beirut partner organisation "Orienthelper" has supported the projects. Close cooperation with Lebanese partners and with local and international bodies is the foundation of Orienthelfer's success. Orienthelfer e.V. is headquartered in Munich.
