SFC Energy: EMILY fuel cells supply reliable off-grid power to Future
Command Vehicle in FFG vehicle kit
- Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG) present their "Future
Mission Equipment for Special Force Vehicles" concept for the first time on
the AFCEA 2017.
- EMILY on-board fuel cell ensures uninterrupted device operation without
idling the engine or returning the vehicle to the depot for a battery
recharge.
- Several international defense organizations use EMILY, with a NATO stock
number, in their fielded missions.
Brunnthal, Munich, Germany, April 5, 2017 - SFC Energy AG, a leading
international provider of stationary and mobile hybrid power solutions, will
present its EMILY fuel cells at the AFCEA trade fair 2017 in Bonn in the FFG
Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH concept of "Future Mission
Equipment for Specialized Vehicles". This innovative concept introduces a
modular approach for the use of state of-the-art systems in specialized,
protected command vehicles. The modular approach enables ultra fast and
flexible integration of the equipment in existing and new vehicle
categories.
In the "Command Vehicle" equipment kit, SFC Energy's EMILY fuel cell is
responsible for supplying autonomous power to the electric and electronic
on-board devices. These devices are continuously used for eight or more
hours per day. Batteries alone cannot supply the required power. The EMILY
fuel cell will produce environmentally friendly power for the on-board
systems without ever having to start the engine. Connected to the on-board
battery the fuel cell recharges the battery on demand, fully automatically
and without requiring any user intervention. In operation the fuel cell
produces almost no noise or odor, it is virtually undetectable and
emission-free.
"Off-grid power is extremely important even in vehicles, and in a parked
vehicle there are many reasons why the engine should not be used for
recharging the on-board battery", explains Kay Dittloff, Project Manager
for Vehicle Systems and R&D at FFG. "Idling the engine promotes wear,
pollutes the environment, and increases detectability. The environmentally
friendly fuel cell eliminates all three problems. We have integrated it into
our "Modular Equipment Kit" concept because we consider this technology to
have an enormous potential in supplying off-grid power to defense and
security systems."
"We are proud to see our EMILY fuel cell being used increasingly in vehicle
based applications in the defense and security industries", says Dr. Peter
Podesser, CEO of SFC Energy. "In addition to many technical advantages our
fuel cell also offers major comfort improvements to its users in the
vehicle: It is basically just as convenient as grid power. This is also the
reason why our industrial fuel cell, EFOY Pro, too, is increasingly sold
into official and industrial vehicle applications."
Numerous international NATO and PfP defense organizations use SFC Energy
fuel cell products. SFC fuel cell and accessory products carry a NATO stock
number.
All SFC fuel cells and fuel cartridges are approved for air transport
according to UN3473. Transport logistics for the fuel cartridges are much
easier than for Li-ion batteries or Diesel.
