DGAP-News: MediClin AG / Key word(s): Half Year Results MediClin AG: Increase in sales and improvement of results in the 2nd quarter of 2013 31.07.2013 / 17:20 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Offenburg, July 31, 2013 - MEDICLIN Aktiengesellschaft (MediClin) has achieved Group sales of EUR 257.4 mill. (1 HY 2012: EUR 254.1 mill.) in the first six months of financial year 2013, thus being EUR 3.3 mill. or 1.3 % above the value of the first half-year of 2012. Sales of the second quarter 2013 amounted to EUR 132.9 mill., which was EUR 4.2 mill. or 3.3 % above previous year's value. The Group operating result of the first half-year of 2013 was EUR -3.6 mill. (1 HY 2012: EUR 1.9 mill.); in the second quarter 2013 a result of EUR 2.3 mill. was achieved (Q2 2012: EUR 2.7 mill.). The two segments post-acute and acute as well as the business area nursing care are reporting sales increase in the half-year and quarterly comparison. In the post-acute segment sales was EUR 147.1 mill. respectively EUR 76.4 mill. (1 HY 2012: EUR 145.5 mill.; Q2 2012: EUR 74.8 mill.). In the acute segment sales accounted for EUR 102.0 mill. respectively EUR 52.4 mill. (1 HY 2012: EUR 100.6 mill.; Q2 2012: EUR 50.0 mill.). The business area nursing care contributed EUR 6.7 mill. respectively EUR 3.4 mill. (1 HY 2012: EUR 6.4 mill.; Q2 2012: EUR 3.2 mill.) to total sales. The half-year and quarterly comparison showed that the results of the post-acute segment of EUR -2.5 mill. respectively EUR 1.7 mill. (1 HY 2013: EUR 1.3 mill.; Q2 2012: EUR 3.0 mill.) were still below the previous years' values. The result of the acute segment was EUR 3.1 mill. (1. HY 2012: EUR 3.9 mill.) for the first half-year of 2013, in which the result of the second quarter of EUR 3.0 mill. (Q2 2012: EUR 1.5 mill.) was significantly above the previous year's value due to a higher occupancy rate. In total the result situation in the segments has improved compared to the first quarter 2013. Especially higher personnel costs burdened the results of the segment, mainly due to a higher number of staff and general wage increases. In the first six months of 2013 about EUR 8.6 mill. (1. HY 2012: EUR 11.2 mill.) were invested in fixed assets (brutto). Another EUR 8.7 mill. (1. HY 2012: EUR 8.1 mill.) were spent for service and maintenance. As of June 30, 2013 cash and cash equivalents amounted to EUR 9.7 mill. (31.12.2012: EUR 22.9 mill.); the equity ratio was 48.5 % (31.12.2012: 49.1 %). MediClin employed on average 6,371 employees, calculated on the basis of full-time staff, in the first half-year of 2013, 193 employees more than on average in the first half-year of 2012. Outlook As regards to the business development of the current financial year, the given outlook is being confirmed. The occupancy at the beginning of the third quarter corresponds to the level of the previous year. The Management Board continues to apply the restructuring measures, started mid-2012, in order to align the clinics to the changing market conditions.
