Rolko has locations in Borgholzhausen (Halle/Westphalia), Silkeborg (Denmark), Houten (Netherlands) and Xiamen (China, Fujian Province) and is a leading supplier of rehabilitation equipment, especially wheelchairs and wheeled walkers. In 2013, Rolko employed over 150 people and generated sales revenues of approx. EUR 20 million. The bulk of the company's sales revenues are generated in Germany and neighbouring countries. With a view to tapping the Asian market more effectively, Rolko opened its own production facility in Xiamen in 2006 and has since supplied large local customers from the rehabilitation care sector. The company supplies its products to over 40 countries worldwide. The product portfolio comprises rolls and wheels for wheelchairs and wheeled walkers including accessories such as wheelchair ramps, body warmers, height-adjustable push handles and headrests. Rolko also sells medical equipment such as plastic handles und bumper wheels for hospital beds. Among the company's top ten customers are large OEM producers for rehabilitation equipment as well as medical store chains in Germany and the Netherlands. The spare parts business also plays an important role, which is not least reflected in the Borgholzhausen central warehouse stocking some 13,000 articles. According to market research conducted on behalf of INDUS, the global wheelchair market has a total volume in excess of EUR 2 billion and is growing by over 9% p.a. This means that the market will almost double between 2011 and 2018. There is growing demand in particular for electric wheelchairs. Representing a combined market share of 72%, the USA and Europe are the largest wheelchair markets. The main growth drivers include an ageing population, an increase in the number of paraplegics (especially caused by tumour diseases) and a generally growing market for home care and obesity. "As announced, we are placing a special focus on the medical engineering and healthcare markets in 2014, as we want to expand our activities in this sector. Rolko gives us access to the interesting market for rehabilitation equipment," said Jürgen Abromeit, CEO of INDUS. Former shareholder Willi Kohlgrüber will leave the company after the sale of his shares, while his son, Achim Kohlgrüber, who holds 25% of the shares, will stay with the company as Managing Director. "INDUS is the ideal owner for Rolko, as the company is a financially strong player in the mid-market and has a long-term interest in our future. Rolko will become a member of a strong Group, while retaining its independence," said Achim Kohlgrüber. The current management team will continue to jointly manage the operations - as will the management teams in Asia, the Netherlands and Denmark, who are bound by long-term contracts. The transfer of the shares is subject to anti-trust approval.
